The Inspiration

Inspired by the symbolic presence of Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the harbinger of new beginnings, the sari becomes a visual mantra. In Indian tradition, every journey begins with an invocation, and for Shirin, this work marks the beginning of a new chapter in her own life.

Her journey across geographies and personal transitions shaped this narrative. From India to the United States, from family life to self-rediscovery, the idea of “beginning again” remains central.

The Ganesha forms emerge not as rigid depictions but as fluid, abstract energies, allowing tradition to dissolve into contemporary expression.

From Sari to Art

Working on silk was a completely new experience for Shirin. Unlike canvas or wood, silk demanded surrender. The paint flowed, bled, and moved in ways that could not be fully controlled.

She approached the process through careful experimentation, creating multiple samples to understand the fabric’s behavior. The unpredictability of silk became both the challenge and the language of the work.

By embracing the flow, she allowed color to travel freely, forming abstract Ganesha motifs that appear and dissolve across the fabric.

Message for the World

When someone wears this sari, Shirin hopes they feel held by strength and possibility. It is meant to feel like being wrapped in protection, luck, and quiet power.

It is meant to give the courage to begin again.
