Journey

From childhood, Sanjay was drawn to stories. He grew up hearing narratives of temple life, rituals, and the gurukul tradition, where students lived and studied under the guidance of a guru. These early impressions became the emotional foundation of his artistic language.

He later pursued formal training at Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya in Pune, completing his G.D. Art Diploma with first class honors in 1999, followed by a Diploma in Art Education in 2000. His academic training strengthened his technical command while allowing him to refine subjects that were already deeply personal.

Today, his canvases revisit the world of Hindu heritage with sensitivity and care, capturing moments that feel intimate, reflective, and rooted in lived experience. Rather than depicting history as spectacle, he paints it as memory unfolding in quiet detail.

Style

The gurukul system forms a recurring theme in Sanjay’s paintings. He portrays scenes of students learning together, moments of prayer and reflection, and instances of youthful energy and celebration.

His backgrounds often feature temple towns, weathered walls, and fading religious murals that resemble the devotional imagery seen across rural and urban India. Gods and symbolic figures appear naturally within these spaces, blending mythology with daily life.

A calm atmosphere defines his work. Time feels slowed, and life unfolds gently, away from the noise of modern cities. Through layered composition and careful tonal balance, he creates paintings that feel serene yet emotionally alive.
