The Artist
Asit Kumar Patnaik is an acclaimed semi-realistic figurative painter whose narratives revolve around the human psyche and interpersonal relationships within society. His work has been exhibited in over 40 solo and group shows in India and abroad, including solo exhibitions at Jehangir Art Gallery and World Art Dubai, and participation in Art Hamptons New York and The Florence Biennale.

The Inspiration
Seeds of Hope reflects Asit’s belief that women embody continuity and creation. The composition features vibrant flora and fauna inspired by India and California, symbolising resilience and renewal. In the pallu, a central woman stands between two men representing the past and the present, affirming her pivotal role in shaping the future.
Her hair is marked with red, a recurring symbol in his work representing energy, strength, and passion. The palette balances earthy warmth with cool undertones, bringing together two geographies through shared sunlight and spirit. For Asit, without women there is no further creation.

From Sari to Art
Working on silk posed significant challenges for a figurative painter accustomed to oil, acrylic, and watercolor. Unlike canvas, silk allows color to spread unpredictably, making detailed features difficult to define.
To maintain clarity in the eyes, fingers, and expressions of his figures, he used gutta as a protective liner to control the flow of pigment. He worked with Seta silk paints and DeCola Silk Batik colors, adapting his technique through research and experimentation. The process demanded precision and patience to translate his structured figurative language onto fabric.

Message for the World
When worn, this sari is meant to inspire hope.
It honours women as creators, nurturers, and carriers of the future. Through strength, passion, and connection to nature, it reminds the wearer that even in uncertain times, renewal is always possible.
