Chennai | Artist, Architect & Educator
Journey
Kavitha's passion for art was recognized early by her mother Lakshmi Krishnamurthy, a respected figure in traditional Indian art and restoration who studied under the eminent artist K. Sreenivasulu.
She began her formal training under A. Anjaneyulu, working with small nature studies of landscapes and skyscapes. Gradually, she moved to larger watercolors, experimenting with paper and pigments to create atmospheric compositions.
After schooling at Church Park, she studied architecture at Anna University School of Architecture. Her architectural background is evident in the level of detail and precision in her work.
She later studied Visual Arts at Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts and worked at the Ceramic Studio at Lalit Kala Akademi, Chennai, deepening her understanding of materials and techniques.
Working as an artist, architect, and educator, Kavitha finds inspiration in J.M.W. Turner's watercolors and Antoni Gaudí's architecture. She values the quiet, introspective time painting offers.

Style
Kavitha’s art speaks in many moods: reflective, reverent, whimsical, feminine, angry, outspoken, humorous, thoughtful, nostalgic and practical.
Her eclectic use of pale and dark pigments, light and heavy overlays, flowing and almost grid-like lines, and both small and large formats signify her as an artist who continues to evolve and experiment. She combines structure with spontaneity, clarity with atmosphere, allowing light and shadow to guide the emotional narrative of her work.
