Seema Kohli

is a contemporary Indian artist working across painting, sculpture, installation, and performance. Her work explores mythology, spirituality, and feminine iconography.


She has held over 20 solo exhibitions internationally in Venice, Brussels, New York, Dubai, Singapore, and across India.


Her awards include the Florence Biennale 2009 1 Premio 'Video', the YFLO Women Achiever's Award, and the Lalit Kala Akademi Lifetime Achievement Award for Women (2008).

Journey

Kohli's journey with art began early and has been sustained through decades of practice. She holds a Diploma in Applied Arts from South Delhi Polytechnic (1983) and a degree in Philosophy (Hons) from Miranda House, Delhi University (1981).


She has exhibited extensively over the past two decades, holding solo shows across major international cities and participating in significant biennales and art fairs.

Style

Kohli works with acrylic, ink, and mixed media, embellished with gold and silver leaf. Her compositions center on the feminine form, featuring female figures, celestial bodies, and sacred geometry drawn from Indian mythology and tantric traditions.


Notable works include the 'Golden Womb' series and recurring 'Tree of Life' imagery. Her use of vibrant color, intricate patterning, and metallic leaf creates layered, dreamlike compositions.
