Preetha Kannan

is a painter and mixed-media artist whose work balances structure and freedom. She holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Arts from the College of Arts & Crafts, University of Madras.


Her work evolved from realism and abstraction to exploring the relationship between humans and nature, influenced by over a decade of grassroots activism in Chennai and rural Central India with award-winning social worker Baba Amte.


She has created multiple series including GAIA, Metamerism and Sublime, and her current Veil and Terrain, working in watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media.

Preetha works with watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media including dyed fabrics, yarn, and paper thread. She creates densely layered surfaces that balance meticulous technique with fluid expression.


Her work evolved from pointillist color application to more spontaneous watercolor and acrylic techniques. She explores the relationship between structure and freedom, patience and spontaneity.


Her pieces often feature natural themes such as forests, mangroves, underwater worlds, alongside landscapes of pure imagination.
