The Inspiration

The Whirl of Life draws from nature and the flow of life. The sari features a spiral composition that symbolizes cycles, continuity, and the movement of water. Fish motifs traverse these currents, representing migration, coexistence, and the dynamic energy of aquatic ecosystems.

The work celebrates indigenous craft traditions, where repetitive hand embroidery becomes a form of storytelling and meditation. Each stitch mirrors the patience and care found in traditional textile practices, while the interplay of color animates the composition, giving it vibrancy and motion.

Through this sari, Preetha creates a dialogue between local craft and global symbolism, encouraging viewers to reflect on the interconnectedness of human creativity and the natural world.

From Sari to Art

Creating this piece required a careful balance of technique and vision. Using Muga Banarasi silk as the base, Preetha employed traditional hand embroidery methods to form the spiral and fish motifs.

The repetition of stitched lines builds rhythm, while the careful juxtaposition of colors ensures that the dynamic motion of the aquatic imagery is preserved.

Every thread contributes to the overall flow, allowing the sari to remain fluid and wearable while maintaining the intricacy of the visual story.
