Journey

Vara founded Lara Lakshmi to explore the sari as an artistic medium. She realized that handwoven silk could be more than traditional textile, it could serve as a canvas for contemporary art.

She discovered that weavers don't typically produce blank silk for individual artists. So she created Lara Lakshmi to bridge this gap, connecting contemporary artists with master weavers to create fine art on handwoven silk.

Style

Vara works with handwoven silk, treating it as both canvas and cultural object. Her approach brings together contemporary artistic vision and traditional craft.

Her work explores how art can exist beyond conventional formats, creating pieces designed to be worn, displayed, and passed down through generations.
