Vimmi Indra

Her work was recognized by the Hon'ble President of India during an artists-in-residence camp at Rashtrapati Bhavan in 2019 and is now part of the Presidential art collection.


She received the Utthan Natraj Samman (2018), the Guru Shishya Award with Padmashri Anjolie Ela Menon from IBN 7 (2012), and was a finalist for the National Award for Fine Arts, Lalit Kala Akademi (2019).

Vimmi's journey of growing up in different towns and cities of Bihar and later moving to big cities is reflected in her dream-like artwork. Her canvases pulsate with inner rhythm and energy, glowing like jewels with colors and expressive figures.


She studied under renowned artist Padmashri Anjolie Ela Menon, developing her distinctive approach to color and form. In 2019, she participated in the first artists-in-residence program at Rashtrapati Bhavan alongside eminent artists including Krishen Khanna, Ganesh Haloi, and Arpita Singh.

Style

Vimmi's paintings often depict a fantasy world where figures float against an ever-changing environment of cities, buildings, and nature. While her earlier paintings were a union of imagination and reality in her Cityscapes series, her newer works appear like dreams with simple expressive figures.


Her art practice employs a simple yet meditative approach. Minimal ornamentation and limited color palette offer viewers intriguing possibilities for interpretation. The vibrant palette and soft brush technique speak of mature handling of the medium.
