The Inspiration

Shakti celebrates the universal energy of the Goddess Lakshmi and the nurturing power of femininity. The depiction of Lakshmi seated on a lotus with baby Ganesha in her lap, surrounded by champa flowers and fish, represents a woman whose divine energy has evolved over millennia.

This sari is an embodiment of empowerment and spiritual presence. The motifs of prosperity, wisdom, and vitality speak to the enduring strength of the feminine principle.

Sarla’s intention is that the wearer feels like a goddess herself, carrying both grace and power, a presence that can create a lasting impact.

From Sari to Art

For Sarla, painting on silk is both a challenge and a return to a medium she first explored over forty years ago. She employed vibrant fabric paints to achieve luminosity, blending fine line work with broad brush strokes. The lotus, fish, champa flowers, and the figures of Lakshmi and Ganesha, are carefully composed to harmonize with the natural drape of the silk.

The process required balancing technical precision with expressive freedom: ensuring the sari remains fluid and wearable while conveying divine energy. Her choice of colors creates a visual rhythm that mirrors the spiritual narrative of Shakti across time.

Every brushstroke, every hue, and every detail is meant to celebrate divinity, transforming the sari into a living piece of spiritual art.
